STAR.LOG 6.2f Released

Version 6.2f of STRIP.LOG, HORIZONTAL.LOG, and MUD.LOG were released.

This version fixes a serious problem with the Shift Data feature. All customers are encouraged to upgrade, particularly if you use this feature. See the README files for details.

This version is data file compatible with versions 6.2b and 6.2c of STRIP.LOG, HORIZONTAL.LOG, MUD.LOG, and WellSight Log Viewer. It is also data file compatible with versions 6.2b, 6.2c, 6.2d, and 6.2e Beta of WellSight Log Manager.

Windows Vista Advisory

It has now been approximately one year that Windows Vista has been available. WellSight's direct experience, as well as the general industry sentiment, suggests that Windows Vista is not a beneficial improvement over earlier versions of Windows. Therefore, WellSight does not recommend that our customers move to Windows Vista at this time. If you are purchasing a new computer, we recommend that you request Windows XP.

For those who have already moved to Windows Vista, WellSight does support the STAR.LOG suite of programs (STRIP.LOG, MUD.LOG, HORIZONTAL.LOG, Log Viewer, and Log Manager) on Windows Vista (Home Premium and Business versions).

With the recent (2008-03) release of Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1), we caution Windows Vista users to use a "wait and see" approach to upgrading. Unless you are experiencing a problem that SP1 is reported to fix, we recommend waiting to upgrade to determine how well SP1 is received. Since Service Packs typically replace many of the operating system files Windows Vista SP1 may introduce new problems.

Plotter Support

Plotter Support

Version 6.2d of the WellSight Log Manager introduces a new Plotting feature (File Menu|Plot) that submits a log directly to an HP-compatible plotter. There are no page length restrictions and the large gaps between headers have been removed as has the extra white space at the end of the log.

STAR.LOG 6.2c Released

Version 6.2c of STRIP.LOG , HORIZONTAL.LOG, and MUD.LOG were released.

This version is a minor fix release. Customers having problems with 6.2b should upgrade. See the README files for details. This version is data file compatible with version 6.2b.

There are also new versions of the Free WellSight Log Viewer and the WellSight Log Manager.

WellSight Supports SAIT

WellSight Systems recently donated software, valued at $162,000, to the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. The software is widely used in industry to produce graphic analysis of drilled wells, cores and outcrop. “Students will use this industry-standard software to present information from oil and gas wells,” says Laurie Slezak, Petroleum Engineering Technology instructor. “They will have an immediate workplace advantage demonstrating competence and confidence when they move into careers in the oil patch.”
