What's New in Version 6
Version 6 of STRIP.LOG, MUD.LOG, and HORIZONTAL.LOG
have added significant new features and enhancements, while maintaining
the ease-of-use, simple and efficient interface, and high quality
output for which WellSight is known.
WellSight Log Viewer
- The WellSight
Log Viewer allows you to view and print log files save
by all versions of STRIP.LOG, MUD.LOG, and HORIZONTAL.LOG
with a single program.
WellSight Log Manager
- The WellSight
Log Manager allows you to easily search through any/all
of the WellSight log files on your computer or network for
header information such as well ID or location. You can view,
print, and plot log files from any version of STAR.LOG, and
optionally change the depth scale.
Plotter Support
- The WellSight Log Manager supports plotting strip logs on HP
compatible plotters.
TVD Logs
- MUD.LOG and STRIP.LOG can convert Measured depth logs to True
Vertical Depth Logs, complete with Plan and Elevation headers.
Live Data Acquisition
- Live Data Acquisition (LDA) imports ROP, Gas, and other curve
data automatically at regular time intervals. Setup the import
configuration once, and let LDA keep your log up to date with
the data coming from the gas detector or EDR system.
Electronic Licensing
- Electronic license option available as an alternative to using
a Hardware Key.
- Try before you buy with a free time-limited trial.
- Flexible network licensing with multiple license servers, license
pools, and more.
Export Log Image
- The log can be exported as a bitmap image file in either TIFF
or JPEG format.
- Export Log Image now supports 1 bpp TIFF - CCITT Group 4 images.
Export Combined LAS Data
- Multiple types of data can be exported to a single LAS 2 file,
including: ROP, gas, lithology, and surveys.
Export Symbol Library
- The new Export Symbol Library feature allows you to export
all of the Symbols in a Symbol Library to bitmap files in a folder
that you specify.
Curve Data
- Curve data can be imported and exported in LAS 3 files as well
as LAS 2 and delimited ASCII files.
- Export data curves with different data steps.
- 5 or 10 divisions per semi-log cycle
- Heavy semi-log cycle division lines are always drawn at 1x10^n
- The curve name and value nearest the mouse is displayed in
the Quick Information Bar.
- Export Data Curves dialog has Select All Curves and Deselect
All Curves buttons
- Power Data Entry dialog has a Clear operation and shows the
Curve name
- Higher data curve resolution: 1/100th of a foot or meter.
Surveys
- Surveys are now fully supported In STRIP.LOG and MUD.LOG.
- Survey Layers can plot TVD, Vertical Section, or any other
Survey data.
- Survey data can be automatically printed on the log.
Headers
- New Headers menu provides quicker access to common headers.
- Custom, Plan, and Elevation headers can be created with one
menu selection.
- Multiple sets of surveys can be distinguished in the Plan and
Elevation headers by their color and line width.
Other Enhancements
- Several enhancements have been made to the Layout Designer
to make it easier to understand and use.
- Up to 40 tracks in your log’s layout.
- While printing, progress is displayed using a progress bar,
as well as text.
- Open Template gives the option to clear header information
in the new log.
- New depth scale: 1:120
- Support for deep wells over 30,000 ft or m
IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR USERS
UPGRADING TO VERSION 6.3.0 OR LATER
Starting with Version 6.3.0,
WellSight products use a new licensing system called HASP
SRM for both hardware keys and electronic licenses. If
you are updating from an earlier version, then before you
can use Version 6.3.0 or later you must convert
your license to HASP SRM.
Note: There is no charge to
convert your Version 6.x license. |

Licensing Enhancements
Renew WellSight License Tool
• Will now work on screen resolutions as low 800x600.
• Network clients are now instructed to renew from the network server
• Show All Licenses: now clears the Order Details
The current license information presented in Help > About now
includes the key name (if one exists).
Log Manager can be used to update license key names. This is useful
if you are managing a number of WellSight license keys.
What's New in Version 6.3.2
Windows 7 Support
This release is supported on Windows 7 Professional
32-bit version.
Support for “high
resolution” screen
modes in Windows Vista and Windows 7.
Deep Well Support
The maximum depth for logs has been increased from
30,000 feet or meters to 60,000 ft or m.
Renew WellSight License
A utility has been added to simplify the process of license renewal.
It can be accessed from the Help Menu and from the Start Menu.
Problems Fixed
Problems were fixed with opening legacy files. See the
README for details.
What's New in Version 6.3.1
Licensing and Software Updates
The following new menu items and enhancements have been added
to make it easier to manage your licenses and software updates:
- Help > Software Updates: Checks for a newer version of the
program. If there is a newer version available, provides a link
to the WellSight Download web page.
- Help > Renew License: Launches the Collect License Info
tool.
- Help > About: Now displays your current license information,
including expiry date.
Problems Fixed
Problems were fixed in the Layout Designer, printing, plotting,
export image, and import curve data features. See the README for
details.
What's New in Version 6.3.0
HASP SRM Licensing System
This release uses a new license management and copy protection
system called HASP SRM (Software Rights Management). The HASP
SRM system provides the user the flexibility to use either a
USB hardware key or a software key to license this product. It
is the latest generation of the HASP system that WellSight has
always used for its STAR.LOG programs.
Important Note: Users who upgrade from earlier versions of this
product will need to convert
their license to HASP SRM.
New Windows Versions Supported
Support for the following 64-bit versions of Windows has been
added:
• Windows XP Pro x64
• Windows Vista Business x64

Export Log Image
- With the Export Log Image dialog, you can calculate the image
size in pixels before exporting it.
- Export Log Image now supports an option to export black and
white images.
- The large gaps between headers have been removed as has the
extra white space at the end of the log.
- These enhancements are new in this release to STAR.LOG and
the WellSight Log Viewer. They have been available in the WellSight
Log Manager since Version 6.2d.
